Old Barbados Rum HISTORY · Martin Doorly was the founder of the company back in the early 1920’s. · He created many new rums and some were named after the owner. · There are five Doorly’s brands sold in Barbados – most with the Macaw as the symbol on the label. · The new Doorly’s XO continues this strong heritage and is a blend of six to twelve year old Barbadian rums. The last maturation is conducted in Oloroso Sherry Oak Casks. · In 1992 / 3 the House of Martin Doorly was acquired by RL SEALE. FOURSQUARE PLANTATION AND DISTILLERY · Today, the excellence and history continues at the Foursquare Plantation and Distillery. DOORLY’S XO RUM, this ultra premium brand is one of the RARE GEMS of the Distillery. · The FOURSQUARE PLANTATION is about 350 years old and the early records state that the windmill fancy molasses factory was in production some 260 years ago around the year 1730. · In 1995 / 1996 the distillery was completely restored by taking the existing historic structures and combining them with modern technology. HYACINTH MACAW The
Hyacinth Macaw is one of 16 living species of macaws and the largest
parrot in the world. The
typical length of the Hyacinth Macaw is about 40 inches and weighs about
3 pounds. The plumage of these magnificent parrots is predominately a
deep cobalt blue. In natural light, the head appears to be a lighter
shade of blue and has an almost iridescent quality. Flight and tail
feathers are dark gray on their undersurface. The huge, gray to black
bill is deeply curved and sharply pointed. Recent
estimates of the number of Hyacinth Macaws surviving in the wild have
ranged from 2,500 to 5,000. These birds are legally protected and for
